Painting and Crying

In an intuitive Painting class today, a client said, “in art class, you can’t sit in front of a painting and cry, here you can.”
Ah, so goes the differences between intuitive painting from within (no rules), and learning techniques.
Today in class, I had people meditate on where in their bodies felt like home, or source. From this place, I suggested letting the painting happen. Heart, Home, Trust, Hands.

One person was anxious at the beginning. Her mind wanted to know what she was going to paint. It wanted a plan. As she allowed herself to move into the painting by feel (and using her non-dominant hand), she loosened up, felt joy, and stated, “I feel like a child!’

Another person started strongly, but broke down after a half hour. Her back was hurting, and she began to cry.
She took a break and finished the painting (which is something she hadn’t done for a long while). She realized that she puts a lot of pressure on herself and that she can be creative without hurting herself and being in pain!
