Resistance and Trouble
Continuing to read the War of Art by Steven Pressfield, I came across the following:
“The working artist will not tolerate trouble in her life because she knows trouble prevents her from doing her work. The working artist banishes from her world all sources of trouble. She harnesses the urge for trouble and transforms it in her work.”
This is a great goal, to banish trouble. It indicates clarity of purpose and great focus. However, life happens. Even with our best intentions, we can’t control all potential distractions. We can, however, make decisions that align ourselves with our work. We must, if we are to delve deeply into our work. We must give the work its due time and space and love. We, and it, will suffer from
incompleteness and dissatisfaction if we don’t.
