Studio Work: Altered Consciousness
When we arrive in the studio, we are entering an altered consciousness zone. That may be one of the reasons that it is so hard to enter. We know we will go into a different time than the usual time we experience everyday. We have to give ourselves to this space of being altered.
A friend of mine, a painter, suggests leaving your street clothes outside the door. others might unplug the phone and computer. Whatever
you decide to do, you must cross a threshold into this altered time zone. We resist doing this, because we know that a loss of control is necessary in this space. Commenting on this, someone stated, “i don’t know how far i’ll have to go.” it takes surrendering to the process.
