Inspiration

A beautiful poem by Marion Woodman:

“Let your body become the music. Let her sing. Let your brush walk in the twilight between consciousness and unconsciousness. There, it will find such images, such ideas, as you could never find.”

What is Marion implying here? To me, she is implying that there is an in between place, a twilight place, between the world as we know it, and an unknown , or unseen world. In art and dance, she is saying, we can reach this place, mingle with the unseen, and incorporate its gifts into our image making and into our bodies.
By doing this, we will find treasures that we could not find without letting these places touch. Without going into an unknown place, we miss alot. I have talked to many people that are afraid of letting go of control in art-making. Marion’s statement implies that unless there is some surrender of control, or of the known, we may never find some richness of ideas and imagery.
