Control and Letting Go

In Intuitive Painting group today,” I asked the question, Where do you control, and where do you let go of control?” One participant, following her images as she painted them spontaneously, thought that she was finished with her painting after she had made “an image”. That image, complete in itself, felt somewhat static; she had known it, there weren’t any surprises or anything new. This is a comfort zone place, a place where many of us feel comfortable, feel oriented, and feel like we know what something is. We spoke about this together in this point in her process. “Is there an impulse to move into the painting again with something that would totally surprise you?, ” I asked her. ‘Well, she said, I think I could put a water wash over the whole thing.” “Go ahead and do it, I tell her.”
When checking in later, she shares that that moment of covering what she had already painted made her feel free.

How alive are we willing to be, and how surprised by what we don’t know or can’t control, ie by life?!
